About Ms. Salva

Ms. Salva grew up in Aurora, Colorado and attended Eaglecrest High School. She was a marching band geek playng marimba and xylophone, and her favorite classes were AP English and AP Human Geography. The first play she ever saw was Cabaret at the age of 10 and was immediately hooked on the world of theatre and film. So, what Ms. Salva wanted to be when she grew up was obviously a wildlife veterinarian.

Ms. Salva started at Colorado State University as a pre-vet environmental health major. After one semester, she decided science was definitely not for her and switched her major to English secondary education. Ms. Salva studied abroad at the University of Leeds in the U.K. for a semester learning about romantic and 18th century literature as well as British absurdist theatre. This was the first time she had ever lived abroad, but she has been travelling the world since she got bitten by the travel bug at age 14 and went to Uganda for a mission trip. Also in college, Ms. Salva was the performing and visual arts beat reporter for the student newspaper, The Rocky Mountain Collegian, and loved every second of it. She grew close with the theatre department and was invited on multiple occasions to watch rehearsals, something off limits to the rest of the world. This behind the scenes lifestyle led Ms. Salva to love theatre and journalism even more.

After one of the greatest student teaching experiences anyone could ever ask for at Lyons Middle/Senior High School, Ms. Salva taught in Fort Collins, CO before accepting an editorial apprenticeship with the Tony Award-winning theatre company Cleveland Play House. She missed teaching way too much, though, and decided to start teaching at Sumter High School in August 2015. While she learned a lot at Sumter, it was not quite the right fit and she decided to move back to Colorado.

Ms. Salva is currently the 12th grade Teaching Assistant at Denver Academy, a private k-12 school that caters to students with diverse learning and behavioral needs. Ms. Salva loves working at DA and she is learning every day how to become a better teacher. She hopes to gain her MPS degree in Journalism from Georgetown University and become an arts and education journalist. With this degree, she also hopes to create and advocate for youth media and media literacy.
