Narrative Writing Assignment

For our first formal writing assignment, we will be writing poems in either the elegy or epic forms. We learned that in Anglo-Saxon England, poets used these forms to reflect the values, morals and beliefs of their culture. Literature in general has a direct correalation to the history and culture of a society.

Students will choose to write either an elegy, a poem mourning the loss of someone or something, or an epic, a narrative poem about a hero and their conquests.

Students will be given check points throughout their writing process to make sure they are on track. We will be workshopping (peer editing) and typing our poems in class.
